Hi Parents!

It's been a while since I have posted. Sorry it has been very crazy!

Tonight is our Christmas Concert it starts. Students are asked to be back at school by 6:30pm. Please drop them off at Mrs. Hocevar's room before the Performance. Our noon performance today was a great success! Please stay a little after the 7pm performance to bid on our Christmas baskets and grab a refreshment from our bake sale!

Students will be receiving Holiday homework tomorrow. Our new math unit when we return is Multiplication and Division. Mrs. Hocevar and I request that students use internet games to practice their multiplication and division skills.

Today, students had a practice in the morning and then had the performance after lunch. In the afternoon students watched the Grinch and relaxed before they went home.

We are all looking forward to a few weeks of relaxation and minimal work. Tomorrow is regular school day and students are able to dress for the Christmas (in red in green colours).

UOI: We continued learning about Judaism today. We learned about the festivals and traditions and watched a video about Hanukkah. We learned why men wear the Kippah and the differences between a bar mitzvah and a bat mitzvah. Students made connections to other religions, and we also "lit" the first two candles of the Menorah and two candles on our Advent wreath which Christians use to count down to Christmas. Lastly, we had students in our class who mentioned today is Prophet Mohammad's birthday so we celebrated their Islamic tradition as well.

Math: Students used the data from yesterday's math lesson to create their own bar graphs and pictographs. We also worked on creating a survey question and how to properly collect data in a chart so they can transfer it correctly into their graphs. Later this week students will be conducting their own surveys and handing it in as a final assessment mark.

Math: We began working on Data Management. Today we learned how to draw pictographs and bar graphs.  We learned that graphs need a main title to pertain to the graph. As well as a scale, choices and the axis need to be labelled. As for a pictograph, the graph needs to have a key. To build our graphs today we raced cars and graphed the distance they travelled!!

Language: We continued learning about how to write a recount. A recount is a summary of something that happened in the past and at the end we are able to tell about our opinion about it.  Students wrote another journal entry about their weekend.
