Hello Everyone!

UOI:  Presentations will take place on Friday and then we are officially done our first UOI unit!

In Light and Sound we conducted 2 experiments to see how sound is created. We have learned that  sound is created by vibrations moving quick or slow.

Math: Today we learned about elapsed time. We learned that elapsed time is the amount of time between the start time and the end time. Our lesson will continue into tomorrow as it is a bit of a confusing concept. Please see extra practice sheets below if you would like to complete them.

Hello Everyone!

UOI:  Students' presentations are looking wonderful! They had their last 30 minutes of in class time to work on their presentations. Presentations will take place on Friday and then we are officially done our first UOI unit!

We also began our Light and Sound UOI today. Students created a definition of what sound is, and started a title page. Tomorrow we will be completing different experiments with Mrs. Hocevar's class to test how sound is created.

Math: Today we learned how to estimate time. We completed a number of activities by first estimating the amount of time we think it would take to complete and then finding the actual amount of time. I am so proud to say that the students remember that the magic word "ABOUT" means it's not exact. Students also completed word problems to figure out when an activity ended when the start time and amount of minutes it took to complete the activity was given. If you all have the chance, please practice with the students telling time at home, estimating how long it will take to get to school or finish dinner, and then count the actual time it took.

I will not be at school tomorrow as I will be at the cross country meet with the cross country team. The kids have a very busy day tomorrow!

UOI:  Students' presentations are looking wonderful! I think that by next Tuesday or Wednesday everyone will be done. We will also be starting our new UOI on Monday. We will begin Light and Sound.

Math: Today we learned that the second hand moves around a clock and the minute hand moves one tick. We practiced saying time in a variety of ways, and quarter to the hour and quarter past the hour . We also reviewed the hour hand and minute hand. It would be beneficial to all the students that time is practiced at home on an analog or digital clock. For example; if it's 5:56 have the children state that it is 4 minutes to 6. Another example would be 4:15, it's quarter past 4.

UOI:  Students worked on putting their presentations together. At the moment they are looking quite wonderful! I noticed a lot of colourful pictures and information being put into their presentations. Students should continue bringing in pictures that they have printed and materials that they need to put their presentation together. Students are required to put their presentation together at school with their partner unless otherwise stated. The students are making good progress with their presentations, and if I feel that they can complete the assignment earlier I will move the due date to an earlier time. Right now, the summative task is due on October 28th!

Math: Today we learned that time can be converted into other units of time.

Today in UOI, we also started another mini assignment which will be assessed. Students are required to create and write a short postcard to someone. Students picked a physical region in Canada, gathered information on that region from their folders and then wrote their postcard like they were there. Students created their own checklist so they knew what to include on their post card. They last part of the assignment, students will design the front of the postcard with a picture(s) that have aspects of the physical region they wrote about. Please see the picture below that has the checklist, examples of what can be included in the short letter as well as a written example. Students have also been given the same checklist and a rubric for clear expectations.

Math: Today we began our unit in Measurement. We had a pretest, and tomorrow we will begin working on time.
